This is a REALLY great tree. An outstanding Beech tree that has watched a million (or more) dramas unfold at its feet. Because it’s been here, on this earth, in one spot, on a college campus, for at least 100 years.
Imagine what its seen. And heard. That’s if it was paying attention.
Maybe it was minding its own business, putting down roots and shooting out branches. Making leaves and reaching for the sky.
Thinking its own tree thoughts. And, slowly getting taller. Wider. Stronger. Not needing anything other than the earth at its feet and the sky overhead; the seasonal shifts in the weather to keep itself fed.
A world unto itself. Completely unaware that, for some of us, taking the time to stand beneath it, it’s more than a “really great tree.” It’s a dare, a challenge and a promise that everything we need is inside of us if we have the eyes to see. [gplus count=”true” size=”Medium” ]
