I Will Always Love You

Start with something familiar:  a sunny day and a black dog’s silent invitation to come out and play. There are no mixed messages to trip you up because dogs don’t waste time with human words.

Theirs is a transparent world in which “what you see is what you get.”

Dogs get to the heart of things quickly. They like how you smell or they don’t.  They’ll give you the benefit of the doubt – they don’t hold grudges or gossip.

They’ll always meet you half-way. They don’t care if you do something that pisses other people off – like when you try your hardest but it’s not good enough, and so you get yelled at and you end up feeling unwelcome.

And, when you try to go to that place inside yourself where words can’t hurt you, dogs won’t let you stay there too long. “It’s better with me,” is their wordless reminder. “C’mon! Jump in! … the water’s fine.”  [gplus count=”true” size=”Medium” ]
