I’m excited! Since I started posting my progress on Facebook about the checked off steps that are leading up to my first published digital book (on Kindle) (on Amazon), a lot of you have been emailing me to cheer me on or have been offering your two cents about different things because I emailed you, on the sly, and asked.
So, before I get too deep into this post, thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your honest and enthusiastic feedback and comments. To my brother, who has been photographing weddings down in the Philadelphia area for over 10 years: you’ve got an unerring eye for knowing what will work from a visual point of view.
The best piece of advice you gave to me yesterday was that if the photos slated for the inside of the book won’t match up to the quality of the book cover, I’d be smart to leave them out; that, at the end of the day, the stories themselves should be the centerpiece once readers clicked past the cover.
I scrapped my first plan in a nanosecond after listening to someone who’s “been there, done that,” say that the cool thing about getting a book published on Amazon is that you don’t need a web site or a list to sell here. He’s right. You don’t.
What plan was that?
I had bundled four of my dog stories into a PDF that I was going to offer here as a free opt in, to keep building my list. After listening to this guy I said to myself, “Really? Are you sure you want to do that?”
Why not bypass that step completely and jump into the buyer’s market?
My dream has been to publish my stories for the past 2-3 years. Watching, from the sidelines, as the self-publishing industry has gained momentum so that its become an unstoppable sunami has been fascinating. Seeking out competent, ethical and savvy mentors has been my behind-the-scenes learning curve. All things come to those who wait, right?
All things come to those who persistently wade through the tools and systems that clutter the internet. And, trust me. There’s a lot of crap out there. But, like everything else, the good is mixed in with the bad and the ugly. If you’re
stubborn persistent and know what you want to accomplish, you can find stellar material, products and mentors: three key elements if you want to ride this huge wave so that your message stands out.
If your message is compelling enough, readers will find you. And, one thing I know in my heart is that quality trumps quantity every time. You have been my yardstick for how I measured the quality of my writing. I knew if I could attract readers here, I could attract them on Amazon with my stories.
The stories, and there are 8-9 of them are written. I’m looking at photos for the book cover and outlining my marketing strategy so that when I upload my book to Amazon’s Kindle platform, some magical things will be unleashed. My intention is to wrap this first writing project up soon.
By the end of September … if not before.
Not to worry. If you don’t have a Kindle, and you want to grab my book when it’s available online, you can download a piece of software (for free) from Amazon that will let you read my book on your computer screen.
It’s called Kindle for PC and it’s easy, easy. I use if myself and love it!
So, now that you know what’s going on in my life, here’s how you can be a part of the next step. If you’ve got a kindle, watch for up-dates here about how things are coming along. If you don’t have a kindle, check out Amazon’s Kindle for PC. You’ve got plenty of time to get comfortable with it before my book goes up on Amazon.
The best part? There will be a golden moment in time when you can download my book for free. And, that, my friends, is my thanks to you for all that you have done for me. [gplus count=”true” size=”Medium” ]
